Poundbury is a mixed urban development of Town Houses, Cottages, Shops & Light Industry, designed for the Prince of Wales by Architect Leon Krier on the outskirts of the Dorset County Town of Dorchester. Prince Charles, The Duke of Cornwall, decided it was time to show how Traditional Architecture and Modern Town Planning could be used in making a thriving new community that people could live & work in close proximity. Poundbury has now become World Famous as a model of urban planning, with regular visits from Councillors and MPs. Welcome to the Poundbury Community Website!

Poundbury, New Square<<< New Square. The first of many new Streets and Squares are now under construction in the land between the Bridport Road, The Middle Farm Way and Billingsmoor Lane. The photo taken in Late February 2007, shows a new Square being built near the rear of Dorchester Chocolates and Downside Lane. A much larger Square is also planned to be built at the junction of the Bridport Road and Lower Blakemere Road, that will be of a similar size to Pummery Square in the Poundbury Village phase of Poundbury with shops and cafe's.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eonic run Web Marketing workshops to put you in control of your website, Helping you understand the real potential of your website Creating better structures and content to maximise web efficiency. www.Eonic.co.uk
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jubilee Hall?Is this the Jubilee Hall? >>> The Jubilee Hall stood in St Thomas Street, Weymouth up until it was demolished in 1989. The materials of the wrought-iron structure have been stored in a Portland quarry ever since, and a group of trusties have been searching for a new site for the building. Are these materials photographed near the new Middle Farm Way, Poundbury, just the first of many pieces of the old Jubilee Hall to be moved to Poundbury?
Jubilee Hall?<<< The victorian building designed by the architect George Crickmay, has had many uses over its lifetime such as a Music Hall & Cinema, but now the idea is for it to be rebuilt in Poundbury. Simon Conibear, Poundbury development manager is now looking into the possability of rebuilding the hall to become part of the new Queen Mother Square, Poundbury and to be used as a covered market building to sell organic local produce.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poundbury Medical CentreNew Poundbury Medical Centre >>> The Prince of Wales Surgery and Cornwall Road Practice, both previously located in Dorchester, have moved to a new state of the art building that includes a Pharmacy near the edge of The Great Field, Poundbury.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<<< Poundbury Footpaths. This is a great time to be walking around Poundbury to view the development progress. The new path that has been built along the high grass bank between Poundbury and the Dorchester Bypass give the perfect viewpoint to see the latest constructions around the south western side of Poundbury. Wait for a nice sunny sunday afternoon and go for a stroll.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poundbury ToursTake a video Tour of the Poundbury Development on Poundbury.TV
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poundbury Towers >>> Towers seem to be popping up all over Poundbury at the moment. The photo on the right is of the tower under construction on the corner of the old Bridport road and Peverell Avenue West. The tower is part of the Mey House office development being built by Woodpecker. The scale of the new building has taken many people by suprise, as it dominates the western entrance to Dorchester and Poundbury from the main A35 south coast road at the Monkeys Jump Junction.
<<< Poundbury Towers. More new towers can be spotted at the northern end of Peverell Avenue West as you can see in the photo on the left. Proposals for a Landmark Tower have also been unveiled in the new Draft Poundbury Development Brief. Further details suggest that the top of the Tower could be made open to the public to be used as an attraction that would command fine views across Poundbury and Dorchester. You can see see videos of some of the lastest Poundbury developments of Poundbury.TV
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHEEKY MONKEYS Toddler Group >>> Fond farewells to founders at Christmas Party. Cheeky little monkeys on Poundbury said goodbye to their founders at a Christmas party last Friday (15 December). Celia and Louise Silk are retiring more than six years after setting up Poundbury Parent and Toddler Group, which was recently renamed Cheeky Monkeys. Now a group of parents have got together to take over the running of this well used group. More than 40 families regularly attend and Celia and Louise have, over the years, been a firm Friday fixture for hundreds of families in the area. The group meets every Friday during school term time from 10 to 11.30am at the Brownsword Hall in Pummery Square, Poundbury. For more Information please visit the Poundbury Clubs page.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOME GROUND FOR POUNDBURY FC
Poundbury Football Club 2006Poundbury Football Club >>> With Poundbury FC currently triumphant at the top of the Dorset Divison Two, comes the possibility of promotion. The pitch currently used at Thomas Hardy School does not meet the requirements of the higher league so a true Poundbury home pitch is badly needed. Could the land to the south of the new Middle Farm Way be the perfect home for Poundbury FC? The land was originally promised by The Duchy as a Park, but in the latest plans its shown as Industry and the site for the proposed Recycling Centre (please see the plans in the news stories below). We are getting a Cricket pitch on the Great Field for a Poundbury Cricket Club that doesn't currently exist, but Poundbury FC who have been climbing up the leagues for the last four years don't have a home. For more info on Poundbury Football Club please visit - www.PoundburyFC.co.uk
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<<< Poundbury Children's Christmas Party. The Poundbury Children's Christmas Party held in December at the Brownsword Hall, Pummery Square, was a massive success again. This year around 50 children attended the event that was paid for by the money raised from the sale of the Poundbury Maps. These maps drawn by Daniel Silk are for sale at the Poundbury village stores and The Dorchester Tourist Information Centre for £1, and online at PoundburyGifts.co.uk
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bridport Road Changes >>> Parts of the Bridport Road are starting to be rebuilt to fit into the Poundbury masterplan. A new square has just been added at the junction of Windslade Street and the Bridport Road, and a further large square will be added at the junction of Lower Blakemere Road in the coming year. The Bridport road that was once part of the main A35 south coast road, but has been around since it was first built by the Romans for the town at Dorchester.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dorchester Recycle CentreWaste Recycling Plant >>> A new recycling centre suggested for St George's Road, Dorchester, was rejected by a government's planning inspector because of the proposed site's close proximity to nearby homes. Instead, Dorset County Council will now be considering potential sites in Poundbury as an alternative. The most likely site they would be looking at in Poundbury is the piece of ground to the south of the new Middle Farm Way shown in this photo >>>
Do you think that Poundbury is the right place for a Waste Recycling Plant? Put your views on the Poundbury Forum
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poundbury Parks?Charles, Can we have our Parks back please? >>> Are the Poundbury Parks that we were promised being eaten up with development? As you can see from these plans, the site of the proposed Recycling Centre and Industrial was supposed to be part of a Park. You will also notice that the alinement of the newly built Middle Farm Way has also been moved to allow more houses to be built on the northern side. Could this just be the tip of the iceberg?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Industrial & Recycling CentreFurture Poundbury Phases? >>> Could even more phases of development In Poundbury be planned that we are not being told about? as you can see from this plan, could the piece of land between the Industrial & Middle Farm have been left to give room for another road that could give access to the Recycling Centre and even more development on our Park? Not so many years ago their was even talk of a link road from the Middle Farm Way to the Prince of Wales School and beyond.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poundbury - The Great FieldThe Great Field >>> Construction work on The Great Field is really pressing ahead as they hope to be seeding most of the grass in around October time. The amount of levelling needed on The Great Field site appears to be much more extensive than most people had first realised, as you can see from this picture.
Poundbury Fete >>> The word on the streets of Poundbury at the moment is about the possability of having a Poundbury Fete or Show that could be held on The Great Field annually in June or July. All that could hold up such an event happening next summer would be that the landscaping may not be settled in and finalised. Visit The Great Field page on this website to see more pictures of the construction.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poundbury Road Signs >>>
Everyone is asking the question - Why does the name "Poundbury" still not appear on any official road sign? Poundbury attracts thousands of visitors a year from all over the world and yet whoever makes the decision as to what appears on the signs seems to be dead against the existence of Poundbury. As you drive through Poundbury you cross junctions with signs that only tell you the way to Dorchester Town Centre and the small village of Martinstown a few miles away. As everyone knows in Poundbury, part of living here means that you must be prepared everyday for people to pull up in their cars to ask directions. What do you think about the signage around Poundbury? Have your say on the Poundbury Forum - Click HERE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poundbury Farmer Market ClipPoundbury Farmers Market >>> The Farmers Market is held the first Saturday of every month in Pummery Square, Poundbury Village. To watch a short piece of video footage of the market please click on the button >>>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Queen Mother SquareQueen Mother Square >>> Plans are now starting to appear for the first buildings to be built around the "Queen Mother Square" near Poundbury Farm. Architect Quinlan & Francis Terry, a leading figure in the revival of classical architecture has been working on the designs over the last two years for the Duchy of Cornwall. To find out more about the sort of buildings that we could see around the square in a couple of years time please take a look at the Quinlan & Francis Terry website - www.qftarchitects.net
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Backing Poundbury >>> Jon Halewood, Chairman of Dorchester Conservatives is backing Poundbury saying "Critics can't stick their heads in the sand and pretend there is never going to be any development in the town" "Instead we should be celebrating that the new development we've got is of such a high quality" This is after the new Liberal Democrat Mayor of Dorchester, Robin Potter criticised the large scale of the building in Poundbury.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pummery SquarePOSITIVE ABOUT POUNDBURY >>> Letter to the Western Gazette - 25 May 2006. You regularly publish letters about the negative aspects of the Poundbury development but rarely the positives. We bought a house here in 1995 when just 40 homes were completed and decided to retire here from Buckingham (the town not the Palace!) and seen the development increase in size and improve for the benefit of residents of Poundbury and Dorchester. Having lived in six counties and overseas prior to moving to Dorset in 1998 we feel qualified to compare the Poundbury community more than most.
The broad choice of facilities available here ranges from art, fitness, parents and toddlers, table tennis, yoga, wine appreciation, garden plots, investment, computer clubs etc and many other associations, most which have been established in less than five years, probably a record for any new development.
We find it such a pleasant place to walk around and chat with whomever we chance to meet either in the streets, shops, pub or cafes. One resident has done a wonderful job in producing the Poundbury web site www.poundburyvillage.com keeping us and thousands of visitors to the site informed providing a forum for discussion, a comprehensive history and gallery of the development.
The vast majority of residents who moved from many parts of the country and overseas find it's the friendliest place they have lived and wouldn't want to move anywhere else.
Our Resident's Association keeps us informed of any new construction proposals and every quarter publish one of the best Resident's Newsletters in the country. Not every new building meets with universal approval but the 2,250 homes planned by the original Master Plan published in 1988 has not changed in spite of some views that Poundbury is now being expanded beyond it's original conception.
Poundbury already contributes over £1M of council tax to Dorset which helps reduce the rates burden and the many new companies here provide over 700 jobs with many more to come.
Poundbury has enhanced Dorchester and provides a complementary development to the town so please let's hear some good news for a change.
Tom Lane, Poundbury Resident.
I'm sure all of Poundbury would like to thank Tom for writing such a wonderful letter that really shows the true community spirit that we have here on Poundbury, Well Done!

£5 Million Poundbury Leisure Centre >>> Plans for the Leisure Centre include a 25 metre swimming pool with six lanes and separate learning pool. The Duchy of Cornwall has offered £1 million towards the project, with the building and management of the new centre being run by a private company. The complex was planned to be opening around 2009/10, but due to Thomas Hardye School getting a £2m Government grant the Poundbury Leisure Centre is starting to look less likely to happen.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poundbury School >>> A 300-place First school is now planned for phase three of the Poundbury development. The school would take children aged four to nine and would replace the current 375-capacity Damers County First School in Damers Road, Dorchester. If the third phase of Poundbury is approved by Dorset County Council work could start by 2008.
